The 2026 NEC Significant Code Changes Part 2 course satisfies four (4) hours of professional development. The course is designed as a distance learning course that overviews the significant changes to the updated National Electrical Code (NEC). This second part covers Chapter 2 — Wiring and Protection — examining the specific changes found in Articles 200 through 270. Topics include grounded conductor identification, the new non-power-limited signaling article, expanded GFCI and AFCI requirements, mandatory surge-protective devices at services, service disconnect modernization, overcurrent protection updates, overvoltage protection changes, and the new medium-voltage articles for branch circuits, feeders, outside circuits, services, and grounding and bonding.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE OR SKILL OBTAINED

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • • Identify the updates to grounded conductor identification requirements in Article 200 and the new Article 206
  • • Apply the expanded GFCI and AFCI requirements in Article 210 including new outdoor outlet provisions, GFPE for branch circuits, and small conductor permissions
  • • Describe the Article 215 feeder GFPE expansion to DC systems and the new SPD requirements for sleeping areas
  • • Explain the Article 225 and 230 updates including mandatory service entrance SPDs, field-evaluated equipment, service disconnect marking, and the 2-to-6 disconnect restructuring
  • • Apply Article 240 overcurrent protection updates including the expanded bathroom panelboard prohibition and transformer secondary conductor rules
  • • Describe the Article 242 overvoltage protection updates including the reconditioned SPD prohibition and Type 2 SPD requirements
  • • Identify the significant Article 250 grounding and bonding changes including 250.4(A)(5) restructuring, rod electrode installation, GEC routing, and EGC identification
  • • Explain the purpose and structure of new Articles 265, 266, 267, 268, and 270 for medium-voltage system
