Part 1 of a five-part series, this 50-minute course covers and highlights the significant changes and updates in the 2026 Edition of NFPA 70: National Electrical Code (NEC). The student will begin with a foundational review of how to use and navigate the National Electrical Code, including scope, mandatory language, code arrangement, and how to identify changes in a new edition. The course then progresses through the major global structural changes of the 2026 edition — including new, relocated, and deleted articles — before moving into the specific changes found in Articles 90, 100, 110, 120, and 130. SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE OR SKILL OBTAINED

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

      • Identify what the NEC covers and does not cover, and correctly apply mandatory versus permissive code language.
      • Navigate the NEC’s structure using the chapter hierarchy, parallel numbering system, and change indicators for the 2026 edition.
      • Explain the 2026 global structural changes — new, relocated, and deleted articles — and apply the new parallel listing and reconditioned equipment provisions.
      • Interpret key Article 100 definition changes and identify newly defined terms for emerging technologies.
      • Apply updated general installation requirements under Article 110, including the new manufacturer instruction compliance provision in Section 110.3(C).
      • Use new Article 120 (formerly Article 220) for load calculations, including the Power Control System load reduction allowance.
      • Explain the purpose and requirements of new Article 130 — Energy Management Systems — and how it coordinates with load calculations and EV charging infrastructure.
