Part 3 of a five-part series, this 50-minute course covers and highlights the significant changes and updates in the 2026 Edition of NFPA 70: National Electrical Code (NEC). The course progresses through Chapter 3 — Wiring Methods and Materials — and Chapter 4 — Equipment for General Use — examining the specific changes found in Articles 300 through 495. Topics include updated general wiring method requirements, a new listing requirement for outlet boxes and covers, expanded permitted uses for Type AC and Type MC cable, the new standalone article for low-voltage suspended ceiling power distribution systems, restructured wiring device requirements including expanded tamper-resistant and weather-resistant receptacle provisions, new luminaire GFCI protection requirements, updated motor circuit and reconditioned equipment provisions, new Battery Management System listing requirements, and the new consolidated medium-voltage equipment article. SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE OR SKILL OBTAINED

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

      • Apply updated general wiring method requirements under Article 300 and explain the new listing requirement for outlet boxes and covers under Section 314.2.
      • Identify the expanded permitted uses for Type AC and Type MC cable, and apply updated installation requirements for NM, SE, UF, and MI cable types including the new underground GFCI requirement.
      • Describe the purpose and requirements of new Article 393 for low-voltage suspended ceiling power distribution systems.
      • Apply the restructured wiring device requirements in Article 406, including expanded tamper-resistant, weather-resistant, and USB receptacle provisions.
      • Explain the new luminaire GFCI protection requirement under Section 410.184 and apply updated appliance and outdoor deicing provisions under Articles 422 and 426.
      • Apply updated motor, generator, capacitor, and storage battery requirements, including reconditioned equipment provisions and new Battery Management System listing requirements.
      • Navigate new Article 495 and identify its listing, enclosure, and grounding switch requirements for medium-voltage equipment.
