Part 2 of a five-part series, this 50-minute course covers and highlights the significant changes and updates in the 2026 Edition of NFPA 70: National Electrical Code (NEC). The course progresses through Chapter 2 — Wiring and Protection — examining the specific changes found in Articles 200 through 270. Topics include the expansion of GFCI and AFCI protection requirements, the mandatory surge-protective device requirement at dwelling unit service entrances, the formal definition of overcurrent protective devices, updated service entrance and disconnect provisions, grounding and bonding revisions, and the introduction of six new standalone articles for systems rated over 1000 volts that replace the deleted Article 235.Instructor: Raymond Bosek, PE

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE OR SKILL OBTAINED

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

    • Apply the new grounded conductor stripe identification method and explain where and why it is permitted under Section 200.7(A)(9).
    • Identify the expanded GFCI and AFCI protection locations and requirements under Articles 210 and 215, including new commercial, industrial, and outdoor applications.
    • Explain the mandatory SPD requirement at dwelling unit service entrances under Section 230.67(A) and describe how it coordinates with Article 242.
    • Use new Section 240.7 to determine whether a protective device qualifies as an OCPD, and apply updated overcurrent protection location requirements under Article 240.
    • Apply updated grounding and bonding requirements from Article 250, including revised electrode installation, GEC routing, and bonding conductor provisions.
    • Navigate the six new medium-voltage articles — 265 through 270 — and identify which article governs each aspect of systems rated over 1000 volts AC or 1500 volts DC.
